Are you interested in art or do you consider yourself to be an artistic
person? Well, if you become extremely rich in the future you might want
to spend a huge amount of money on a famous work of art and display it
in your hometown just as Japanese billionaire, Yusaku Maekawa has done
recently.
Maekawa, an E-commerce entrepreneur outbid a whole host of rivals in a fiercely
fought auction held by Sotheby’s auctioneers. The work which many were trying to
buy was that of Jean-Michel Basquait. The untitled artwork is a depiction of a skull-like
figure and cost Maekawa…wait for it...$110.5 million.
Maekawa said “When I saw this painting, I was struck with so much excitement and
gratitude for my love of art”. He continued to state that he would show this artwork in
his home area of Chiba, in Japan.
So if you are interested in art, and have the money…would you spend a lot of money
on a painting?
